If you are looking to create a stunning tablescape, here is a five step plan that may be of help!
1. Create your canvas! Cover your table with a tablecloth or runner and add your coasters, placemats/chargers, crockery and cutlery. This will allow you to see the space you have to work with.
2. Choose your colour scheme. Do love gold or silver - or a mix of both? Do you prefer bold colours, monochrome or neutrals? Add colour via your table linens, crockery, glass wear, decorative accessories, flowers and foliage.
3. Place your larger decorative items on the table – creating a centrepiece. These items could include candles, candlesticks and larger decorative accessories.
After you place an item on your table, take a step back and see if your design feels balanced. Ensure that no accessory gets in the way.
You really don’t want your guests to ditch your tablescape as soon as they sit down. If in doubt, take a seat and see for yourself!
4. Add your medium-sized items to your table - votives, foliage and shorter pillar candles. Add different textures, widths and heights. Then, fill the remaining space with your smaller accessories.
5. Play with both symmetry (echoes and repeated patterns) and chaos. Every time you add a new element or accessory, take a step back to make sure that your table design does not look too “busy”.
View your the table from a variety of angles, make adjustments and experiment with different accessory placements. Most of all, don’t forget to have fun!
